SEASONS GREETINGS

At SVNC, we recognize the importance of being surrounded by family during the holiday season. For this reason we want to offer the opportunity for families to come together with their loved ones for a delicious festive meal. Two separate dates have been set aside for family bookings. The kitchen will prepare the festive meal and families will be seated in the Maple Room with their loved ones. The cost is $5 per guest, payable at the front office. To allow all residents the opportunity to dine with loved ones we kindly ask that you book only two guests per resident. Should you be interested in joining us for one of these meals, we ask that you book a seat with your loved one for one of the dates listed below. You can make your bookings with Shelley at 519-323-2140 Ext. 25.

CHRISTMAS DINNER WITH FAMILY

1. Friday, December 13th from 12-1PM Menu – Roast Turkey meal with the trimmings (Please make your reservation by Nov. 30th)
2. Thursday, December 19th from 12-1PM Menu – Ham & Scalloped Potatoes (Please make your reservation by Dec. 4th)

Should you wish to dine with your loved one on another date we kindly ask that you book your reservation at least two days in advance with the Food Service Manager at extension #24. Please be mindful that due to the increased volume of visitors during the holiday season we ask that you consider limiting dinner guests to a maximum of 2 guests per resident to allow all residents the opportunity to dine with their loved ones. Additionally, those wishing to book a common room for a get together are asked to do so between meal times. Please call ext. 24 to make your reservation.

PHYSIOTHERAPY CHANGES

Due to changes in Ministry funding for Physiotherapy, these services will look different starting on August 1, 2013. This means that residents will be eligible for physiotherapy services should they meet certain criteria. The physiotherapist will assess each resident and contact families should their loved one no longer be eligible. We are happy to announce that we are retaining our current PT provider, pt Health. This will provide consistency during this time of change. SVNC is committed to maintaining resident independence and preventing decline in function. As such we will continue to work with residents to assist them to meet their highest level of functioning with alternate programs, should they no longer meet the criteria for physiotherapy services. Please feel free to contact the Home should you have any questions regarding the recent changes to Physiotherapy Services in Long Term Care.

FRONT FLOWER GARDENS AT SVNC

The management and staff of SVNC want to extend their appreciation to the following residents and their families for talking on our “Flower Garden Challenge”: Betty Ricchio, Naomi Mackie, Erika Matheson, Doris Marchant, Liz Coutts, Ruth McLellan, Isobel Maveal, Kathleen Murray, and Gladys Ernst. The flowers out front of SVNC are absolutely beautiful and we have all of you to thank for this. A small floral token of our appreciation was delivered to all participants for their dedication and hard work.

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS – SVNC FUNDRAISER FOR ALZHEIMER’S

LAST CALL! – Looking to get rid of those loose pennies? We invite you to drop them off in our “Penny for Your Thoughts” jar at the front reception desk. Once the jar is filled we will donate the pennies to the Guelph Wellington Alzheimer’s Chapter so that they may continue to provide valuable programs and services in our region. We thank you for your contributions.

FALL FAIR ENTRIES

Residents at SVNC are working hard to prepare entries for the local Fall Fair on Aug. 31st to Sept. 2nd. If you are a talented baker or have canning skills we welcome your support as we take on these projects for additional fair entries. Please contact Shelley at ext. 25 should you wish to volunteer your time and skills.

BILLING UPDATE

Saugeen Valley Nursing Center has been purchased by Sharon Farms and Enterprises, owned and operated by Peter Schlegel. Recently this has resulted in consolidation of our billing and bank accounts. You may have noticed that your pre-authorized payment will show Sharon Farms and Enterprises on your bank statement.

NEW O2 PROVIDER

Beginning the end of June, we have contracted with Motion Specialties as our new oxygen supplier. This decision was based on the type of equipment they provide, and also some enhanced services that will benefit our staff and residents. Instead of portable oxygen canisters residents will be provided with battery operated portable concentrators. This eliminates the need to refill the canisters, and is much safer as we do not need to store liquid oxygen in the building.

LOST & FOUND

Our lost and found items are accumulating. If you are missing items please pop in and ask to be directed to our lost and found. As well, please remember to bring new clothing items to the front desk during the weekdays or to the nurse’s station during the evenings and weekends so that the clothing can be labeled.

TRIPS & SUMMER FUN

Throughout the summer months we will be going on short excursions with small groups of residents and larger group outings by bus. We invite family to partake in these outings as it allows for more residents to enjoy them. Please contact Shelley at 519-323-2140 at ext. #25 if you are able join us. Additionally, many families have taken advantage of setting up a small trust account at SVNC for residents to access funds for the Tuck Shop or for small trip expenses. Many residents enjoy the independence of purchasing a treat from the Tuck Shop cart and/or buying a sweet treat at a Tim Horton’s outing. Please see Lynn at the front desk should you be interested in setting up such an account and she would be happy to assist you.

CLOSETS

Just a friendly reminder that it is a good time of the year to organize your loved ones closets/dressers/night stands of unwanted or ill-fitting items, and look at changing their clothing over for the summer season.

WHAT’S UP AT SVNC?

Check out our calendar so that you don’t miss any of these exciting events. We welcome family & friends to join us!

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP AT SVNC

Are you struggling with a family member who suffers from dementia? We have a support group that meets once a month to assist you with information and to let you know that you are not alone! The Alzheimer’s Society of Guelph Wellington holds monthly caregiver support meetings at SVNC. Anyone wishing to take part in these supportive meetings is invited to call 519-836-7672 for more information. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 1:30-3:30PM in the SVNC library.
